Common questions

What are pot odds in poker?
Pot odds are the ratio between the size of the pot and the size of the bet you have to call. They tell you the minimum equity your hand needs to make calling profitable. If a call is cheap relative to the pot, you need less equity to continue.
How do you calculate pot odds?
Required equity equals the bet you call divided by the total pot after your call. For example, calling 50 into a pot of 100 means 50 divided by 150, or about 33%. If your hand wins more than 33% of the time, calling is profitable.
What is the rule of 2 and 4?
The rule of 2 and 4 estimates your equity from your outs. On the flop with two cards to come, multiply your outs by 4; on the turn with one card to come, multiply by 2. Eight outs on the flop is roughly 32% equity.
What equity do I need to call a bet?
You need at least the required equity that the pot odds set. Compare your hand's estimated equity to that number: call when your equity is higher, fold when it is lower. This calculator does both steps for you.
